The science behind UV-Shield

What if there were other ways to protect against the sun?

Developing effective sun protection is a balancing act. UV rays are among the leading causes of premature skin aging and can cause serious skin damage in the long term. Protecting your skin is therefore essential.

Many traditional chemical UV filters work very well, but some consist of very small molecules that can penetrate the skin barrier. In recent years, this has led to a great deal of scientific research and questions about how sun protection can be developed to be even more skin-friendly. Of course, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use sun protection at all. On the contrary: unprotected exposure to UV radiation carries much greater risks.

At NANNIC, we therefore chose a different approach. For UV-Shield, the UV filters are encapsulated in a silica carrier. This way, they remain on the skin, where they help block UV rays, without unnecessary skin penetration. That’s exactly where they’re supposed to do their job.

“Using an SPF 20 regularly is better than using an SPF 50 just once.”

With this technology, achieving a very high SPF is less feasible. That’s why we’ve focused on something that’s just as important: ease of use. UV-Shield is an ultra-lightweight spray that doesn’t require rubbing in and can be effortlessly reapplied multiple times a day, even over makeup. Because, in practice, sunscreen that you reapply regularly often offers better protection than a high SPF that you use just once in the morning.
